Agenda
InsideOut은 도쿄 스파이럴 빌딩이 지닌 공간적 논리를 뒤집어 새로운 기능과 관계를 설정한 재해석 프로젝트이다. 내부를 따라 상승하던 나선형 램프는 건물의 외곽으로 이동하여 U자 형태의 곡선으로 재배치되며, 더 이상 내부 circulation이 아닌 파사드를 구성하는 조형적 장치로 작동한다. 외부로 드러난 곡면 램프는 안과 밖의 경계를 부드럽게 넘나들며, 실내에서 시작된 흐름이 외부 공간으로 확장되는 연속성을 자연스럽게 드러낸다.
또한 스파이럴 빌딩을 특징짓던 수직적 격자 벽체는 수평적 레이어로 전환되어 배치되었고, 각 레이어 사이에는 원 건축의 유리 파사드 패턴을 변주한 요소가 삽입되었다. 이를 통해 스파이럴의 핵심 언어였던 격자 패턴이 새로운 방식으로 강조된다.
결국 InsideOut은 원 건축의 개념을 모티프로 삼되, 그 구조적 논리를 반전시키는 방식을 통해 새로운 공간적 흐름과 해석을 만들어낸 시도라 할 수 있다.
InsideOut is a reinterpretation project that overturns the spatial logic of the Tokyo Spiral Building to form new functions and relationships. The iconic interior spiral ramp, once rising through the core of the building, is relocated to the exterior and reorganized into a U-shaped curve, transforming it into a sculptural element that defines the façade. This outward-projected ramp moves fluidly between exterior and interior boundaries, revealing a continuity in which a motion that begins inside naturally extends outward into the surrounding space.
The building’s original vertical grid walls are reconfigured as horizontal layers, and between these layers, elements inspired by the Spiral’s glass façade pattern are inserted. This variation highlights and reinterprets the geometric grid motif that characterizes the original architecture.
Ultimately, InsideOut draws from the existing building as its motif, but by inverting its fundamental logic, it generates a renewed sense of spatial movement and a fresh architectural interpretation.
